Although more in the high Sierras rather than the foothills, we include this beautiful little town because of its rich Gold Rush legacy. The spectacular Sierra Buttes tower over the little town. The downtown is only a few blocks long, making walking easy. The North Fork of the Yuba River edges one side of the town. Several hotels and bed and breakfast inns offer accommodations.
