A planned community that dates from the 1960s, El Dorado Hills sprawls along U.S. Highway 50 just as one starts to climb into the Sierra Nevada foothills. Many high-end homes are located here. The region is expanding rapidly.

El Dorado Hills is unincorporated. Recommendations on land use are made to the Board of Supervisors by the El Dorado Hills-Salmon Falls Area Plan Advisory Committee.
