A History of Diamond Springs, by Debi Drake-Maurer

Named for its crystal-clear water, this town along Highway 49 south of Placerville in El Dorado County was once a stage stop. Today, with a population of 2,872, it houses antique shops, bookstores, art galleries and restaurants. Traffic is nearly always busy on Pleasant Valley Road, the main road through downtown and an important access route to southern El Dorado County.

In June-September of 2000, the median price for a home was $144,000, or $113 per square foot.
